ok guys tell me what you think,

i have the money for the 280 and the 4870, i know that the GTX 280 only performs 11% more than the 4870 yet these are on beta drivers...

Also i know if i had an Intel MOBO i wouldn't think twice about getting a 4870 because i know i could CF them in the future but seems as i have an Nvidia MOBO i have the choice of SLI a few months down the line.

i currently have the 8800GTX so any of those cards will be a large increase in performance.

So what should i do, any suggestions

all i want is maximum performance

also when i get the GTX 280 i am going to buy the cheapest model/make then water cool it and OC to the max (the same goes with the 4870)

Both cards are really on 'young' drivers, so expect performance enhancements for both as the drivers mature.

i have decided to wait for 2-3 weeks after reading lots of articles stating that the GTX 280 will go down in price considerably.

So i have just ordered myself a Q9450 and 4Gb of Corsair Dominator DDr2 1066Mhz , my old E6400 is on its last legs OC'ed to the max

It has to come down in price. It just can't compete with other offerings at the current price.

If you are planning on dual GPU's and don't want to upgrade your mobo then you have your answer. ;)

I have a crossfire board, I know what my next GPU upgrade will be. :) Not that I am much for SLI/Crossfire, but at the current prices I might consider it.

The GTX's are a joke. Just a tech demo as far as I'm concerned. Wait for the revision, just like the Radeon HD 2900 XT... ;)

FYI, THG released their July's graphics card buyer's guide yesterday. That can be found here (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-cards,1965-4.html).

In the end, the GTX 280/260 are merely teasers - just demo vid cards showcasing the possibilities locked within the GT200 GPU. And like the Radeon HD 2900 XT, I don't recommend buying one.

Don't buy either the GTX 260 or the GTX 280. End of line.

The GTX 280 just dropped to $500. It now costs about what it's worth in terms of performance when measured up to other cards, at least according to most preliminary benchmarks.
