Can't find much about your specific problem, but came up with a couple of links at the Micro$oft Knowledge Database that might give you some info.
General Protection Fault usually occurs when an application tries to access memory already allocated to another application. Chasing it down can be a real headache...
GPF info (http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/Topics/Win98/Hardware/HardwareEM.asp)
Search Results (http://search.microsoft.com/us/SearchMS25.asp?so=RECCNT&qu=General%2520Protection%2520Fault%2520and%2520US B&qu=General+Protection+Fault&boolean=ALL&i=02&i=08&i=07&p=1&nq=NEW&f qu=%2528usb%257C%2522universal%2520serial%2520bus% 2522%2529%2526FAULT%2526PROTECTION%2526GENERAL)

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
