I've been building computers for the last 15 years, but this one has me totally stumped.....i run a home network, and my #2 computer is used for basically downloading files. At seemingly different intervals, out of the blue, it will shutdown.......it is a abit k7 motherboard, duron 750, and maxtor/wd hard drives 80 gig each.
It will be downloaing files, then wham, its off, then all i do is reset the switch in back of power supply and it is back online. I have a temp monitor, and its low, 25 cel. on system, and 35 on cpu, so thats not the reason, any ideas anyone? I just found this forum, hope someone has some ideas. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks,
Cy

COuld be 5 things , Software put a bad driver on there. Hardware, usually powersupply, a virus, Or heat related issues.

Usually those sort of symptons describe a dying power supply if the CPU is not the culprit. Run a full virus scan and check to see how that goes. You could have a polymorphic virus that stays undetected by virus software or it could be as diurnal said - a bad driver written by a junior programmer!!

I would say to you that its the power supply that needs to be looked at.
