I really need some help here please.

I have built my tiny atom based (intel D945gclf) pc. But I can't get the chassis fan to operate.

I know that the fan iteself, a Zalmann 80mm Quiet fan, works...

I have:

1. Plugged the chipset fan (which works fine) into the Chassis fan slot - it then does not work
2. I have plugged the Zalmann fan into the Chipset slot - it works.

So, it is the Chassis fan slot itself that does not work...

I have checked through the BIOS, I can't find anything refers to the fan.

What is wrong ??

Thanks.

The fan header is defective. :(

Two known good fans that work in other headers... Yeah it's a bad header. Is there a free fan header you can plug it into? If not get yourself a 4pin molex adapter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812201009) so it can be powered directly by the PSU. Either that or RMA the board.

sigh..... thanks ... i was frightened of that. That is what Intel support said today, but I prefer to rely on you.

thanks

I know how you feel. A couple months ago I built a system for my cousin that is disabled and the CPU fan header was bad. I gave him a s939 3000+ and an x700 that I wasn't using, a decent Foxconn board I picked up for a good deal on Newegg months ago. He came up with some cash for ram, PSU, and a case. The board was long past Newegg's 30 days and I have heard Foxconn's support sucks, not to mention the last time I looked at s939 boards on Newegg they were pretty much non existent. Fortunately there was a free header and I just slapped on an extension and plugged it in there. I figured it wasn't worth trying to RMA a $60 board for a bad fan header when everything else worked just fine.
