Hi All,
Before I go any further I need some advice.
I've just added a 3rd partition to my drive, with partition magic 6.0.
I'm going to dual boot, ME/XP Pro.

SETUP:

Drive C: OS ME 6GB Aprox Primary.

Drive D: Apps ect 12GB Aprox Logical.

Drive E: Empty 12GB Aprox Fat32 Logical.

Is this set up right.

Do I do anything else to drive E:, fdsk, format, etc.
Do I change boot sequence, It boots to floppy.
Will XP go on Drive E:, or should I swap drive D: to E:
I will be using Fat32 for now, to go with ME.
I'll stop here for now, I will need more help later.

Thanks,
kfh.

I have a dual boot with 98 and 2000 and its much the same as you have, dont know about ME or XP. Why keep ME?? If XP is like 2000 when you install it will ask you where you want to install and will set up your dual boot. Suggest you do a "google" search and ME and XP dual boots..

XP will allow you which partition to intall to during the setup. Sure have it as a fat 32 to start with if that's what you're going to use. One thing you might want to check is an OS I believe needs to go on a primary partition and I thought I heard something about you can only have one primary partition per drive.

I duel boot ME and XP Pro and it looks to me like you are ready to install XP. You can do it one of three ways. Set your BIOS to boot from CD ROM While in ME insert the XP CD if it autoruns cancel it and reboot to the XP CD. Or you can just insert the XP CD in ME it will auto run and install XP from ME. Or you can boot to a DOS prompt with CD ROM support and run set up from there. Here are some links that might help. Microsoft Help and Support How to Multiboot Win XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gettingstarted/multiboot.asp) Expert Zone Multibooting made easy (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/columns/russel/september10.asp) Microsoft's instructions for Fdisk and Format (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q255867). XP doesn't need to be on a primary partition it can be on any logical drive in the extended partition and the drive doesn't need to be set active, this is because the boot process is redirected from the active partition by bootsect.dos, ntldr, boot.ini, and ntdetct.com. Win XP will write these files to the root directory of your C: drive (C:\) and uses them to create the menu asking which operating system to boot to. You might want to make copies of these files and keep them on a floppy just in case you need to format your C: drive. A format will remove these files and cause XP to be lost because you don't get a boot menu. You can fix this by running XP setup and choose the repair option.
