If I was building a new system I would go for the ATI 4870 and get a Crossfire motherboard. They are awesome cards.

I would look at the WD VelociRaptor hard drives. They are super fast but expensive.

I would go with Vista 64 bit, get 8 GB of memory and turn off the page file. DDR2 is dirt cheap right now. You'll never use it all of course but, I think 8GB is the sweet spot for running with no virtual memory.

For a case, the Lian Li cases are superb. I have a Rocketfish I picked up from Best Buy when the Newegg no name case I bought turned out to be junk, it is large though. It is extremely quiet. You can get a Lian Li badged case from Newegg. My other cases were all Lian Li from Newegg but this time I went cheap and that was stupid. Best Buy raped me but I wanted one right away.

The 6xx series MOBOs are old now. And definitely I would say go with the ATI 4870.
