Hi everyone

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Details on the hard drive, please...
Also, how are you formatting it...are you running the format from the install CD?
Does Setup see the full drive?

How old is this notebook? Can it see hard drives beyond the 137GB barrier?

i have an update
ok im installing windows xp through the cd so first it load run all the setup from the cd then i go to press enter then i press f8 then i choose quick format and at 40% it kicks off again blue screen the error seem to be DIRVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and i have to turn off the notebook
that's the last update
Start over, this time, partition the drive into about 10 GB and leave the rest alone for the moment.
Then continue the install to the new 10 GB partition you just created.
Does it work any better?

update no 2
I changed everything
i partitioned the hard-drive at 10GB to FAT32 then i transfered the i386 from the cd into the hdd and i reboot. i also downloaded smartdrv and add it to my bootdisk.
so i restart the notebook put the floppy bootdisk in drive and here we go it load all in need it to load and i written \i386\winnt.exe and windows xp loaded up it's installation. after it need it to boot and it said if you have any floppy in drive take it out so that's done.
here it comes
when restart on boot it says
NTLDR is missing
Press any key to restart
got me again :|

NTLDR is missing

Don't know what to do next ?
There aren't any missing file errors during the install process?
Have you tried a full format (not quick)?
Run the manufacturer's diagnostics on the drive?
There is definitely something up with that machine/drive combo...
What are the full specs for it and how much RAM does it have?
Is it plugged in or are you trying to install on battery?

Something certainly sounds screwy. Perhaps, just as a troubleshooting thing, you could delete all partitions and then create a single 10 gig PRIMARY FAT partition using fdisk and format from a DOS boot floppy or create the partition using the WinXP setup but back out before continuing with the installation. Then ensure the drive is marked as active with fdisk and then sys the drive from a DOS/Windows startup diskette. You would need to have sys.com on the floppy and then from the a: prompt issue the command
sys c:
You should get a response about system transferred. Now if you have just one PRIMARY partition, "sys"-ed and marked as active you should be able to boot to the hard drive's C: prompt.
You won't be able to do much from this prompt apart from run dir but if you can boot to the C: prompt on the hard drive it tells us that your problem is almost certainly with the WinXP setup files and not with the hardware. "Sys"-ing a drive writes a DOS boot sector and adds the three mandatory files io.sys, msdos.sys and command.com. Some will be hidden and so not seen by dir unless they have their attributes changed with attrib. Enter attrib /? to see all the switches.

Boot to DOS/Windows startup diskette containing fdisk, format, attrib and sys utilities. Always use fdisk with large drive support.
Use fdisk to delete any existing partitions.
Use fdisk to create a 10gig (10000 mb) partition.
Use fdisk to mark the partition as active.
Reboot to the same floppy (three fingered salute or reset button)
Use format C: to format the partition.
Use sys C: to sys the, now FAT, partition.
Check that you get a system transferred message.
Remove the floppy diskette and reboot to the hard drive.
Does this give you a C: prompt?

this is what i don't get
Use sys C: to sys the, now FAT, partition.
Check that you get a system transferred message.
what's sys ?
sys C: is a DOS command that transfers the necessary files to a disk in order to make it bootable as a DOS disk.
You are needing to work in DOS because 'higher' level utilities do not seem to be working with this drive/machine.
