Hi all
Does anyone know what part of the Win ME OS is used on a boot disk. I know that MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS and COMMAND.COM are used, and I've used the mem command to see that DOS is using the high memory area. But surely there is a paradox here. If Win ME does'nt use DOS real mode then why are thes files there? Typing the ver command after booting from an ME boot disk gives Windows ME ver 4 point something, so clearly the OS resident in memory does'nt want to bee seen as DOS - but is it! The point i'm trying to make is that the system loaded from an ME boot disk can't be the Win ME OS because that's a 32 bit OS that runs in protected mode. I'm more inclined to beleive that it is DOS albeit with a fancy 32 bit sounding name, and that Microsoft have only included it for making boot disks.
Anyone else have any more info or ideas on this...
