Hi all,
Having some serious problems with my Dell Insprion 6400 (E5105 in the States).

On July 6th, I turned it on and this just happened. Its still with me now..

Its taking 3 hours to get from the log in screen to a fully loaded desktop. It then takes 15 minutes to open the start bar. Yet, it works perfectly fine in Safe Mode.

I have run my AntiVirus program and Spyware programmes, as well running a Disk Defrag. Restoring my system to an earlier point doesn't solve the problem either.

When I turn the laptop on, the CD-ROM drive jumps a bit.

I've also had no internet connection since June as I've recently moved house.

Try running msconfig and turning off all the startup programs. If that helps you need to add them back in ones or batches till you find the rogue.

If its still slow after msconfig then I would post a HJT log in the security forum.

The fact that SafeMode is OK imples some software program or malware as the cause.

Try a Restore operation.

It is best to try to isolate what is causing the problem before running a Restore...because if it is malware related, a Restore can do more damage and make trying to cleanup the infection nearly impossible.

When I try to disable a number of the Start-Up options on MSConfig, I get an 'Access Denied' error telling me I need to log into the Administrators account, both on Normal and in Safe mode.

I am the administrator, and even if I log into the Administrators account in Safe Mode, I get the same error message.
