View Full Version : PC keeps disconnecting from network

I have 3 PC's in my house, all connected to the internet through a router. Two are working fine, but recently one disconnected (after a series of power-cuts, although it was working for a few hours after the latest power-cut). I tried to refresh the whole network by powering everything off and back on again, but the PC now connects and then disconnects a few seconds later. Then it connects again, then disconnects again, over and over.
Since it's only the one PC, would I be right in thinking that something is damaged, or could this be a software issue that can be fixed?

Welcome to the PC Guide forums!
I would suggest doing a router Reset.
This is done by poking the Reset button on the router for 20 seconds and then powering everything down.
Power up the modem, wait
Power up the router, wait
Power up a PC, go into the admin page and configure the router and set up secure passwords, etc.
Then test the network again.
While in the admin page, check if there is a firmware update available for the router, it might make the router more stable in the long run to update it.
Also a small UPS can keep the connection settings alive if you use one for the router/modem.

Thanks, that's fixed it. Will remember the reset button next time anything goes wrong :)
