Hi...

I've just bought a new computer. Wanted something that could play games on good specs and do the rest (internet etc, etc)...

Had about £1K to spend, don't have much knowledge/expertise. This Is what I've gone ahead and got...

Does this sound like a good new rig? Would like to know what you guys think...

Hi New Rig,

That looks like a pretty sweet setup to me. All the components look good, though I would dump the Norton Anti-Virus for a better (and free) one. I personally use AVG, though others around here use others like Avast and others I don't remember at the moment haha.

I wish i had your monitor :P

Did you say you had 1k pounds to spend? That comes to around 1980 USD (increasing as we speak). Could probably buy a very good PC :D . But of course, it also depends on where u buy your pc from. Not many of us are that familiar with the current status of the commonwealth PC markets ;)

I don't think with this Chip ( E8500) I would go with a ATI GPU. No I'm not a fanboy I used to be a big AMD/ATI fan but if your going to go to Intel then I think it would be wise for you to get a Nivida card the ATI's are cheaper but they really arent ment for gaming they are more for multimedia and video stuff. If you want a Great gaming card I would look at the GeForce 9 series they have some really good cards there for not a lot of money.

Hope this helps,
Warm

The 48xx's hold their own in gaming...at least in most of the reviews I've looked at. The 98xx and 280s are significantly more expensive, so when trying to stay in a budget, that must factor into what you can get...

You can probably play most games on very high settings. I've heard that you can't play Crysis on Very High (with the 4870), but still High. :P

AVG and Spybot S&D are pretty good programs to use, I had Norton.. it always had "problems"
