Hi guys, I'm in a pickle I don't know what to do. I can get a 500HD for only 20 $ more to upgrade from 250gigs. Do you guys think I should do it?

Yes. I would. $20 more for double the capacity! That's $0.08 per GB for the extra 250GB. ;)
500-750GB is your best bang for the buck drive capacity right now.

What kind of harddrive is it? SATA or IDE/ATA? You might not want to buy the 500gb one if it is an inferior type. Also depends on what you will use it for and what kind of pc. I agree with jlreich, but just because you can afford to buy now doesn't necessarily mean you want to...because there will always be better and faster stuff down the line :D
Anyway, in my experience even 80gb HD is more than enough if you don't do CAD or photo imaging. I've only used 24gb out of my 80gb HD. If you're into gaming, you can also save the 20 bucks to buy COD4 at a wonderful website called half.com. Or a day's worth of gas

Regardless of type I say get it. If it is IDE/PATA and you move to a system that won't have an available IDE channel you can always plop it in an external USB enclosure and use it for backup.
If you feel you will never ever use more than 250GB you could save the $20 and use it somewhere else. It does depend on use. I have a ton of data, and I don't do CAD or much photoshop, spread across three drives totaling over 1.5TB of hard drive space. But some people will never use more than 20GB.

Oh yeah, there always will be. But unless there is something coming out in the next week or so that you can use I usually say don't wait. The waiting game will leave you cold and miserable. ;)

1.5 TB!!! Think that qualifies you to be a suspected data terrorist under the new National-Patriot-Wiretap law ;)

LOL! :D Well I am sure they know all about me anyway since the work I do requires me to go into the local air force base from time to time. ;)
TB++ for home systems is not a big deal...heck I remember when 100 MB hard drive was a huge deal...and cost an arm and a leg.

Haha I'm running 2.55 TB right now...
Maybe a little overkill but I won't run out of space. But then again, CAD is a fun program... Maybe I will go design a beastly house later and use some of my HD space...
And we also take loads of photos with a 9 MP camera so those take up space as well...

I still have a 20 MB ST-225 that works perfectly fine. What should I do with it?

Leave it installed in the Old IBM PC Jr.
That is what I did and it still works (when used) :)
