On this computer I have Norton Antivirus and so it filters my email. I am unsuccessful in recieving my email through Outlook Express. Does Microsoft not allow that if you use Norton? Do I just have a config error?

Sounds like you've got a config error, Jes. Some av progs may not work with some email clients, or may require special configuration to do so, but they should never block email entirely.

Has OE ever worked under its current configuration?

I am running NAV and have no problems getting email through outlook express. You must have configured something wrong. Are you able to get your mail when NAV is not running or not installed? Also do you get error messages, and if so what are they?

No, I have never had OE working with the email. I don't actually own the computer. It is my work computer. The email comes in from Communicator fine but I prefer to use IE and OE. I am at home right now but tomorow I will try it with NAV disabled.

If it was never working something is configured wrong. Make sure all of the incoming and outgoing mail servers are entered correctly. Also check to see if your usernames and passwords are entered correctly. One more thought, check to make sure it is set to connect to the internet in the proper way, or you are connected to the internet when trying to get your mail.

I'm thinking it has nothing to do with your NAV.

it has to do with Netscape being your default mail client.

all you need to do is create the account in OE by seeing who you ISP's mail server and smtp servers are and then entering the data in the appropriate fields.

there is even a setup wizard I think.

Check the configuration. When you set up Norton to scam emil for some strange reason it changes the name of your primary POP mail server to 127.0.0.1 which is your machine's default IP address. (or something like that I think...)

Open OE, click Tools then Accounts and highlight the account. Click Properties then the Servers tab. In the POP server box will be an IP address the same or similar to the one above. Change it to your ISP's mail server name, which is usually something like mail.ISP.com and it should work again.

I have to make this change every time I install Norton or go into the configuration for the program. When I try to close it I get a message that says I have configured Norton to scan email but have not specified a mail program, which I did druring the installation. Re-check OE, and it resets it back to the IP address again...it's a nuisance, but since McAffee got me illegal operation errors, invalid page faults and locked up the computer...I suffer through it...

The error message was:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'cap site', Server: 'pop3.norton.antivirus', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I use the same ISP at home. The outgoing and incoming mail servers are smtp.sk.sympatico.ca and pop.sk.sympatico.ca

Sounds like NAV has changed the addresses. Go to tools, and click accounts. Click the Mail tab, and select the account from the list and click on properties. Here select the Servers tab, and enter the proper incoming and outgoing mail server address, apply the changes and it should work.

I was thinking that the smpt server would have to be set this way for NAV to filter the mail. That is why I didn't set it back.
