i had a friend who still use pentium2 who asked for my help.his pc suddenly shuts down, when he tried to open it up it wont work.when i checked it,it says "disk read error".so i turned it off and checked the hdd if the cable was loosen up.and i saw the jumper settings set with both master and slave.so what i did was to set it to master and tried to turn it on,but it says that "hdd not detected".i was confused and not sure what settings should be set with its jumper.any help? thanx

What make/model of hard drive and how many devices are attached to that cable.
You should not have needed to change the jumper from its original setting. With one Drive this is normally the Master setting though on some HDDs there is a different setting in the presence of a slave from when there is no slave on the cable. Master should be at the end and Slave in the middle of the cable.
Disk read errors and total non detection are not the same though a failing drive can cause either.
If the drive is correctly jumpered and the connections/cables are OK the next step is to see if its detected in the BIOS setup of this (and for confirmation} in another PCs BIOS setup.
