View Full Version : Plans for my upgrades

Ok i have not been posting alot here lately due to working alot (not even had much time to game )

but i have been saving and i have planned on buying a few things for water cooling

i thought i would put this post up for people who do have questions on watercooling and also to show some of the mods and such i will be doing (seems as we dont have a mod fourm)

well my current rig has the terrible cooling of the Zalman resorator 1 V2 (http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=183) cooling so i have decided to do the water cooling job properly

my plans are

Pump

Laing DDC-1Plus MCP355 with XSPC Acrylic Top and L stand should look pretty nice and has more power than with these extras the MCP655. I am also going to get 2 Purple LED's that are compatible with the XSPC top to light it up

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/pump.jpg

Radiator

Swiftech MCR220-QP 240 with two Xthermal fans and shrouds which i have to say are some of the nicest fans i have seen in a long while. I am mounting the rad in a home made enclosure made from sheet metal and metal modding mesh (will look good) on the wall as i don't want it in my case because of the heat it will dissipate.

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/fan.jpg

*nb* that is not the radiator i am getting

Reservoir

I already have this 25cm x 5cm i went with an internal tube reservoir because mounted correctly inside your case looks very nice

http://www.alphacool.com/shop/images/product_images/popup_images/4252_0__15134_1.jpg

Blocks

Now seems as i spent alot of money on my Zalman i didnt want it to lay to waste so i decided to run two loops on one loop i will have my Zalman with a single 780i NB chipset cooler (as thats all i think the zalman is worthy of cooling)

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/780inb.jpg

Now on my main second loop i will have cool my GTX 280 and my Q9450 for my GPU i chose the EK-FC280 GTX SLI Plexi version instead of the solid black top because i want to see my coolant running through, for my CPU i choose the EK-Supreme Plexi version again this block is meant to be one of the best on the market and will easily out perform my zalman low flow block

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/GTX280.jpg

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/CPUblock.jpg

Coolant

with the coolent i have gone with 4 bottles of Feser Aqua Ultra Pure Water and then some Feser blue UV die and purple die, blue for my Zalman loop and purple for my main loop. My rest of my PC is Blue and some purple so should look good.

Tubing and other small things

The tubing for the main loop with be 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD (nice and thick) and my zalman already has small 8mm ID, 12mm OD so i will have to live with that for my NB cooling loop.

I am also getting some more of the black 3/4" OD smart coil to surround the whole loop to so the color doesn't look to solid

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/coil.jpg

Other things coming on the order

Seems as shipping is cheap for large limits i am putting a few other extra odds and sods

CPU lapping kit - i have already lapped my old E6400 but it was not done very effectively due to the lack of choice of sandpaper i had so with my Q9450 i will do a proper job

MOBO cooling - Because of the EVGA 780i cooling i have to take off the whole off the cooling matrix to put on the NB waterblock, i didn't want to watercool the whole MOBO as it will look stupid with that much tubing and IMHO it does not really need water cooling. So i looked around and found some nice thermalright passive air cooled heat sinks for my mofset and SB

http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_images/mosfet_cooler/hr09type4/HR-09%20T4/hr-09t4-2.jpg

Temp monitoring - i am going to order a small LCD screen to show the temps and mount it inside my case to show the system or liquid temps

well thats it for now will be ordering either late this week or early next week i will keep posted on mods i do and pics of the work being done and when its finished as well =]

*note* the reason i put this in this section of the forum is that i will carry on this thread once i have got the parts so that's why i didn't put it on the buying and upgrading part

Wow.

Sounds cool. I don't think I could even think about shelling out that kind of money for cooling but it looks sweet.

Looking forward to the updates and good luck with everything.

Maybe we can get the updates in the up-and-coming modding section of the forum, which seems to be getting pretty good response at the time being...

Keep up the good work and keep us updated...

Yeah, I think it was a good suggestion. I just can't understand why some people are trying to fight it when it makes perfect sense to add it...

Seems a little out of hand to me...

Anyways, like I said before, good luck on the upgrades. I can't wait to see the new and improved system.

Wats up?

I just saw a pic of your PC, now, or before you began the upgrades, and I just wanted to point something out.

I really like the wire mesh (or whatever you call it) that you have put in. Where did you get it?

It looks really sweet and cleans up the look of the wires you have visible. It also looks cool with the blue neons shining through...

Just figured I would let you know that I liked it...

I really like the wire mesh (or whatever you call it) that you have put in. Where did you get it?

i went down to a metal factory looking for stuff for work (well me and my dad) and i saw it so i took a hefty piece home with me cut out all the insides [the original HDD bays] and made my own and cut metal mesh (tbh its galvanized steel :p so my case is bit heavy now) and sprayed it black it cleans the whole look of the PC up and gets rid of all the stock stuff

*just a note to cut all the metal you have to be pretty good with a grinder and and dont wear sandals otherwise you get some very hot toes (i learned the hard way :p)

Not had much time to do any mods on my case or anything today doing work round the house but i deiced to put spotlights in my ceiling and replace all the bulbs in my room with blue LED lights so no white light for me

Just looked at some pics on my cam and i have a few pics of my case before i cut it all out and some of the stuff i put back in ;) forgot to take alot but o well :p

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/SDC10349.jpg

thats the part i removed (painted black from before and you can see the wholes were i cut for my cable management)

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll221/jiggyghallam/SDC10348.jpg

thats all the metal i replaced it with, and many fans and some purple and blue neon

and my other fav toy you can see in the background :D

The quad or the dirt bike?

George Hallam

Dirt bike, the quad is my brothers i dont like them i like the bike its just you and the road :D

MR. HT

I know you are talking about that shovel back there...

LOL, I've never been on a dirt bike actually. My baby is my black 2005 Ford Mustang...

I was on a website and I found this stuff called modders mesh. It is basically the same thing that you have there. IDK exactly where I would put it but I really like the look it adds to your case...

I wish I hade thought about painting the inside of my case black when I did my upgrades. I really don't want to take it all apart again so I guess I will stick with the metal look.

I may look into the mesh stuff though, it looks sweet.

things left to do

1) wait for dominator RAM to come back with cooler, then MOD the cooler using blue LED 40mm fans

2) get new LED's for pump (and dont fry them with 12v this time :p)

3) tidy up all cables that look bit out of place

look at my finished rig :D

Looks good.

What happened to the blue and purple UV liquid you talked about?

George Hallam
09-06-2008, 07:26 PM
you cant see it due to the cam quality :( when its lighter tomorrow you will see it, it came out pink :p so i have bought some ready mixed purple to add next week when it comes and if that still looks blueish i might aswell go to green or if im feeling really exotic orange

Actually after a closer look I can see one of the pipes near the bottom looks purple. Looks like it's just washed out by all the blue LED's.

George Hallam

to be honest there is only 1 blue LED cathode on that whole system the res are purple UV
