it's there, you just didn't type it right.

try it from your boot menu- (press F8 to get there)

and choose Option 6- Command prompt Only

then type: scanreg /restore

only go back to ONE day prior to this event.

restore is what you want to try 1st.

that doesn't work try "fix"

then go get updated virus definitions and run a scan!

I just rebooted into win98 for the first time in a month and tried it.

from within windows in a DOS prompt it would NOT restore- error message said it HAD to be done from true DOS.
(before windows loads)

I then did it as I outlined above from Command prompt only and got the regular blue screen, and options to choose different dates/cab files to restore to.

can you type RESTORE there?

also please chill out- one of my colleagues will hopefully try another approach and be able to help, caps are not needed.

If you typed scanreg/restore (notice that there is no space between the "g" in scanreg and the "/") or some other way than scanreg /restore (it must have one and only one space between the "g" and the "/") it might come up with what you described...the list of optional switches that you can run scanreg with...

some of you may remember here lately all the debate about how this command will work without the sp_ace in the command so I didn't stress the SPACE being needed as I always used to.

If running the command: scanreg_/restore from booting to Command Prompt Only - (option 6 by pressing F8 at boot BEFORE windows starts)

with the _ between scanreg_/restore do not type in the _ it is just there to signify a spa ce.

get it??

Dude; maybe scanreg /restore has worked OK for you but I note that:-

my computer won't go into any of my files it just goes you program not found its dun it to everything word, acsess,

The above only mentions office programs specifically. Are there any programs like Internet Explorer and Notepad that do open correctly. Is everything actually everything or are there exceptions. If it is ONLY office programs then I would try reinstalling office.

If you are still not sorted-out give us a few more details of what your pc is doing/not doing and how/when this started.
