Open it back up and check all the connections you probably knocked something loose. Is this a replacement cdrom or are you adding a new drive.? Did you properly set the master/slave jumpers?

Some more details would help. I've seen this happen when hooking up Panasonic interface drives to an IDE controller, could this be similar, or the opposite?
I'm wondering...
1. Was the original CD ROM connected to the IDE controller or the sound card?
2. Is the replacement drive a new one or an older one?
3. Where is it being connected? Sound card or IDE controller?
4. What OS is the computer running?
A new CD ROM drive should be connected to the IDE controller, if you're using an older one it might be a Panasonic interface or similar type that needs to be on the sound card, or an IDE connected to a sound card instead of the IDE controller.
Let us know, maybe we can figure this out...
