I need to back up a network. And i am looking at tape back up and hot swapping hard drives. I need someone to direct me in the right direction. Cause i am not really sure what is better and what is faster.
The files that i will be backing up are large files (auto cad and video files and varies other files). Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Don't know if there is any great way of doing it but personally I would probobly use tape,There are basically two types of back-ups. A full back-up copies all the files your network; an incremental back-up copies only those files that have been modified since the last back-up. Since full back-ups can be time consuming - especially if your network contains a large number of files - incremental back-ups can speed up the process, especially if you only change a handful of files each day. For example, your company can schedule a full back-up once a week, with incremental back-ups daily. If you use this method, remember that you will need the full system back-up tape as well as each incremental back-up for any recovery procedures. And be sure to keep data back-ups in a secure place off-site such as a bank safe-deposit box. This will ensure that you always have a safe copy of your data incase of a fire or some other unknown disaster.

Ya sure, are you running a server at the buisness with raid capabilities and 3or4 different hard drives in case one crashes one of the others will seamlessly pick it up the info, that would be the way to go.There are a couple of folks here that take care of Networking in a Buisiness when they get off work they could advise a little better for you.Quality of the Back up is what the issue should be not the speed.Thats just my opinion so good luck.
