I found a file named: "_nim4711.tmp" on my c: drive. It is 688,976 KB, last modified 10-23-01, and is the largest file on the drive.
The W98se Disk CleanUp tool is set to delete all .tmp files that have been idle for 14 days. It would seem that this file should have been deleted long ago.
Because the _nim4711.tmp is a temporary file might it be safe to delete it?
Thank you.

Well, it seems that from this Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=_nim4711.tmp+&btnG=Google+Search) search, it has to do with XP and System Backup.
But you say you have 98SE. I suppose it would be the same thing.
Most of the links are in either German or Dutch (not sure) but the one to TechTip is English. Be aware, the bad language is edited but is still there. I am not sure what you are used to http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thank you bassman,
Please accept my apologies that I had not mentioned in my original post that I had searched Google, Microsoft, and the W98se Help for an explanation of the purpose of this file. The search revealed the same information that you listed. (As I am limited to understanding English, I could not decipher the other links.)
I was not able to discern from the Tek-Tip post what was the purpose of the file. It seemed to be a casual reference rather than a specific explanation. I will assume that the file is safe to delete after renaming it and waiting a few weeks to see if any problems arise – unless of course anyone might be able to provide additional information to the contrary.
For curiosity sake, it would be interesting to find additional information about this file. It was odd that Microsoft did not have any reference to the file at their website.
