Hi,

Im not sure if I am posting this in the right forum, but here goes.

I just ordered a Icon225 mobile broadband dongle with Orange.

I have installed the software which was fine. I then inserted the dongle as instructed and my laptop found the device and installed 4 components. Modem, USB, Ports and another I cant remember which. Anyway it finished installing and then a balloon in the bottom right corner of my screen says hardware installed but may not work properly. When I then open up the orange shortcut to connect to the internet it says device not found.

When investigating this further and looking in device manager, the installation of the 4 components except the modem bit are showing fine, whereas under the modem bit the Globetrotter thing (orange dongle device) has a yellow ! by it making me think this is the problem. When I right click properties for this it says device cannot start and then says Code 10.

Also In the past I've had a hub for my USB port and for some reason I have like 4 USB HUB ports under the device manager USB bit and 4 Port controllers. Im not sure if this is correct as I only have 3 actual ports.

One final thing, when I had my speakers on, I noticed that when I inserted the dongle the normal insertion sound plays and then it bings a few more time over and over for a few seconds like as if im taking it out and inserting it back into the port again, when i'm not.

So I really don't know where to go from now on. It is my laptop which has XP on it and have been using it prior to this with a wireless card to connect to wireless, but I have now moved out temporarily and the only way of getting internet without having to install a phone line for a short time is by using mobile broadband. I really hope someone can help me out on this please as It's really bugging me. I wondered maybe reinstalling the drivers for the USB ports but I am unsure how to do this VIA my Acer CDs given when purchasing laptop. Maybe a complete hardware reformat is the best solution?

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. T

Many Thanks

Description of Code 10-related errors that Device Manager generates on Windows XP-based computers (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/).

I had a similar problem with an O2 dongle. During troubleshooting, I rebooted into safe mode, and for some reason, the install started again, and this time it worked. Might be worth trying. Just Install in normal mode, and then reboot into safe mode. If you get a message that the hardware is installed and ready to use, just reboot normally.

Unfortunately it didn't work. When in safe mode device manager says everything is working fine. When rebooted still showing code 10 in device manager. Under phone and modem options (globetrotter) its says its not functional. If I right click and view log and it says modem device failed with error 00000003

Actually its my daughter's laptop and she doesn't have phone line connection at her house to get onto any of the microsoft pages to download drivers, this is why she is trying to get some kind of connection via mobile....so guess she will have to wait till she gets home and connect via my wireless connection.

Any further help is greatly appreciated.
