I tried to download a Mac program, put it on a floppy from my PC, and then load it into a Mac. Mac can read the PC disk, but the program came out in PC format, which is also unreadable on the PC. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to read a Mac floppy on a PC disk? Then I could download right to the disk. My Mac is not online.
Thanks
What kind of file was it (compressed or executable)?
If you're downloading Mac files to a PC disk, don't run Winzip or other Windows decompression utilities on them. Right-click on the download links and save the file in its original format. You could damage a Mac file if you run Winzip or other Windows software on it.
Don't try and double-click on Mac files when they're on a Windows PC--you could damage them.
To move small files from Windows to a Mac, just copy them to a Windows floppy disk, and then transfer them to the Mac. Copy them off of the floppy, and then drag the files onto Stuffit Expander's icon. They should unstuff fine. Zip and Jaz disks also work.

The corruption problem appears only because you're downloading mac files on a PC, not because you're moving then on a PC Floppy. If you have to use a PC to download, never use http downloading if possible. Always prefer ftp. If not possible, right click on the link on your PC Browser and "save as source" the file you're downloading, or use Getright or Go!Zilla. Sometimes the downloaded file is clean, sometimes not. Because PC can't read the ressource fork of mac files, files storing important stuff in the ressource fork (like some self installers) cannot be downloaded on a PC without beeing corrupted, whereas .sit or .hqx files are usually OK (even .img files).

As mentioned in mjc post Mac files have a resource fork and a data fork. When you copy a Mac file to a pc the resource fork is lost. (the resource fork is to a Mac what "file assiociation" is to a Windows pc)
You should avoid copying files from a PC to a Mac if the file is to be excuted in some way.
edit You can use Resedit to work with Mac files and their forks. It's been years since I had to do it so your on your own http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif (It's been so long I had to search for the name of the program because I had forgotten it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

Thank you for the info. The file is in .sit format. It really isn't crucial, just a game. I don't know how to download by way of FTP. I was jsut getting it from the shareware website.
