i cant figure out why my games run choppy. i think it may have to do with my video settings in my video card but idk what to play with. i get 100frames in 1.6 and it still is choppy. i get 70+ frames in bf2 and its choppy exp at long distance its noticeably bad. same thing with source. even quake3 cpma. changeing my graphics settings in the game doesent help. my specs are.
core2duo e4500 cpu
2gb gskill ddr2 ram
7600gt pci 16x video card
550 watt power
160gb harddrive
gigabyte p35 motherboard
Hanns G 19" 5ms 75hz widescreen
my cousins 20$ value desktop plays 1.6 better than me... reason why its 20$ all i would want is the burner. the computer is that old. thanks for the help.

You didn't happen to install the drivers that came on the CD's with your hardware, did you?
Game performance problems are usually related to inadequate hardware or outdated software - 99.99% of the time. Since your 7600 GT should at least be adequate for the games you've mentioned (certainly evident by the fact that changing the settings does nothing for the problem) it's most likely a driver problem. Or outdated DirectX installation.

yea, either go to nvidia and update your graphics drivers and/or update your Directx as saphalline said. Personally I'd save up for a new video card, they got some nice cards out now that are in the low 100's. I suggest nvidia, but you may be an ATI person, idk here's a link to Newegg's nvidia stuff at any rate: Click here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380a48 1305520548&name=NVIDIA)
When getting a new video driver, whether its an ATI video card or Nvidia, you need to UNINSTALL the older video display driver first.
Go to: Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs if you are using Win XP, look for your display driver there highlight it and uninstall it. Reboot the pc, now its safe to install the new video driver you have downloaded.
If you are using Vista--> Control Panel\Programs and Features, look for the display driver listed, highlight it and UNINSTALL it. Reboot the pc + go to where you have downloaded the new driver. install it.
Installing newer video drivers ON TOP of older ones usually leads to a corrupted video driver which can cause un necessary problems.

Who is winning the video card war now anyway? When I last left these forums it was ATI with the 4870/4850 cards basically owning Nvidia's 9800 GTX+ and the GTX280 being horribly overpriced.
