lost program

in the past I have run across a problem whare a cd perner will stop working or a printer will stop.I have fixed this buy reformating at the time it was not a problem to do.now a friend has the same thing and reformatting is not an option what can I do anyone know.

errr..
are you saying that a CD burner, as in the drive itself, will stop working?
OR.
are you saying a software used to burn CD's isn't working?
OR.
are you saying that the drive is still on yet not detected by Windows?

Please, try to be more specific to ensure quality responces by the members here.

Otherwise, did your Printer just stop working? as in, the printer itself?
if the printer still turns on, there could be a wide virety of problems & solutions as to why it isn't working.

If your printer still turns on yet Windows won't print to it there may be the following problems/solutions.
1. The cord connecting the Printer to the Computer is bad, this happens quite frequently, replace the cable.
2. The drivers for the printer are not installed on the computer, install the drivers found on the manufacturers website.

Reinstalling Windows does not magically remedy problems, there could be alot going on here.
