Hello there,
I had trial version of Norton Antivirus on my PC. when tral period expired
I wanted to delete and I did delete, rather I was supposed to un-install.
now when ever I boot, it gives a messgae system.ini file refers to *.nav(some file name related to NAV, which does not exists. so I have to delete this reference file from system.ini.

is there any way I can do this???

Also I dont know if because of this or for some other reason my system hangs frequently.(this was old model, purchased in 97, then it was with all latest configuration), or because of memory, i dont have compatible memory available now. but it was running k. untill i delet this NAV.

any suggetsions ??
Thanks

This is why you NEVER delete a file in a program, you uninstall it!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

By the way, Welcome to the PC Guide, Ronap! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

In this case you have to redit the registry i'm afraid ( this is advanced stuff ) so not knowing how proficient you are in the pc world {lol}, i'll point you towards a free registry cleaning program that will remove the registry entries that are causing the system.ini file to search for NAV on boot.

Regcleaner (http://www.jv16.org) , is the program you want-it'll help clean out all your invaild entries.

I'm not recommending you use the old command line DOS registry recover method { scanreg /restore } becuase i imagine you've rebooted/restarted your system several times since this issue has ocurred so any registry backup would also be corrupted.

As for compatible memory; any system made since arond '96 will use SDRAM ( PC66> ) so you can still buy some new memory to upgrade it, if you'd like to post back with your PCs' make/model no# someone here can help you pinpoint what you need. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
