unable to load the OS

dear all for last 10-15 days i m having a problem with my PC well it all started after i upgraded my RAM(in my opinion). i had 256 mb and added 1gb of ddr1 RAM, all went well for around 36 hrs after which my PC unable to load OS(POST was OK)and restarted time and again after showing xp logo window for a while. so i removed the new RAM and replaced it with another one but again after a period of time(2days) it stopped working in the same way but recoverd by itself after half an hour but with a new problem that now whenever i switch on my PC there is no response from HD but CD rom starts blinking and after restarting 2-3 times my HD responds(Idont know how?)now for the last 24 hours i m unable to start my PC even with my old RAM.can anyone please help me?

its me again to inform that i solved the problem at last its the leaked capacitor in power box which makes it to behave erraticaly i changed it and everything worked fine
anyway this is a nice forum where i could see loads of information
