I got a windows confifuration error & windows would not start up , I tried rebooting it did not work went into dos & did scandisk & also scanreg/restore , which seems too have worked ,on startup it said corrupt file had been fixed , what I would like too know is what the error meant & what possibly fixed it , I know everything is now ok but it is better too know what was at fault.
Thanks IANUK

The error meant a system file was corupted, when you initiated the registry restore, the bad file was overwritten with a copy of the ( supposedly ) good backup file from previous boots.
this is why it's so important to back up your registry and reboot/restart when installing new software so that window's can correctly initialize the registry files.
