Hi,

I have recently built an AMD 64 bit quad core on an ASUS motherboard. I have been running dual boot XP and openSUSE. I was in openSUSE the other night and had problems turning off my machine. I went for the kill switch!

Today I have come to use it, and it will not boot! When I initially turn it on I get the opening flash screen saying press <del> for bios - but then it just goes black screen.

I have reset the CMOS RAM - I now get a different flash screen

I then tried running it with no HDD, then with no HDD and the battery removed ... still the same!

What have I done and can I correct it?

Regards,
Tom

Can you press del and successfully get into the BIOS setup?

If so is the HDD identified in the BIOS setup?

If so can you boot to a boot floppy diskette or boot CD??

If so then run the HDD maker's diagnostics or run partinfo (http://paulski.com/zpages.php?id=2103) and post the results back here.

Were you using Grub or Lilo or a 3rdParty boot manager to organise your dual boot.

Hi,

No I cannot enter the BIOS setup - whatever I do it ignores me and proceeds to a blank black screen.

Tom

Edit: No I was using the default grub for dual boot.
