Hi guys, I have a problem.

I have a dell latitude D400 laptop with 1 gb memory

When i connect to the internet, for some reason the laptop will skip.

As in skipping i mean the mouse will get stuck for a fraction of a second and then shoot off.

This really gets the worst when I watch a video on youtube or play my game (counter-strike 1.6).

It will some times happen when I'm not even doing either of them.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks

Do you have the actual drivers for the touchpad installed or just the generic MS mouse drivers?

umm I have no idea.

My laptop has a touchpad but I just connected a USB Dell mouse and that's what I use.

A lot of the problems with Dell touchpad machines stem from having the 'generic' Windows drivers...those drivers can't control the sensitivity settings for the touchpad and often make it default to the most sensitive settings it has. If the touchpad is not disabled, usually in BIOS, the problems with it can carry over when using a mouse...because it also defaults to 'both'...meaning both the touchpad and mouse are active at the same time.

Try disabling the touchpad, in BIOS if you never use it.

hmmm
I tried disabling the touchpad, but still I'm getting the skipping.
Any other ideas?

Is the erratic cursor behavior still present?

This can be a multi-part problem...

I don't know if it's an erratic cursor problem, but it's more like lag.

Like the mouse will pause when I'm moving it to the right, and after the very brief "lag" the mouse will shoot off to the right.

I'm living in a university apartment with DSL connection.

My 2 roommates have their comps connected to the same hub and aren't having the same problem as me.

I'm starting to think it's some type of networking problem with my laptop cause it only happens when I connect to the internet.

Thanks guys
