ok this is another topic... as you guys know, i recently bought a new system (still to upload pics :D ) but, i find the core is running wierd...
under vista ultimate 64bit, coretemp reads temp at 47C, realtemp at 42C (underload and idle) and asus probe at 29C...
To add to it, the mobo bios reads it as 21-23C...
But, under XP, coretemps show it as 47-50C but, Realtemp shows it at 34C and under load, at 39C.
which temperature to believe guys, i know about the C2D problem with temp read outs but if i ever try to overclock a day, or st, what value can i trust. And no im not going to OC... i just need a value to trust...
any suggestions

Always go with the BIOS temps if there are any questions. Sit in the BIOS and watch the temps for awhile to make sure they are staying stable.
You know it will warm up a few C's when you start loading the OS and such, but always trust the BIOS over any software.
You can also touch the side of the heatsink and see how it feels. If it is in the low 20's it should feel pretty darn cool to the touch. If it is in the 50's you will definitely be able to feel some warmth.

thanks jlreich, but what i dont understand is that my cpu temp is 21C but my Mobo temp is 28+ some times 32C and still my cpu temp is around 25C. Is that possible with my zalman air cooled solution?
Yes, it is possible in an air cooled system, because of the locations of the sensors...the one for the CPU is either located on the CPU die itself or a thermal diode right below the CPU. The mobo one is probably on or near the Northbridge...
Neither of them are actually measuring the temp over a large area.

WOWOW  if its actually 25C... thats amazing. Thanks guys for giving me some guarantee! :D
and no im not going to OC it
It probably isn't if the ambient temp is over 25...but if your ambient temp is close to 25 or lower...then, yeah, it likely is. If you have the machine in an air conditioned room, it is somewhat more likely to be true...

It is a unusually low temp, but very possible if you have lapped your heatsink, or happened to get a particularly flat heatsink. And sometimes that particular CPU just happens to run rather cool.
I once had an AMD 3000+ that ran as low as 13C to 25C. I think it was a combination of the CPU and heatsink working particularly good together for some reason. I put the CPU in another system with a different heatsink for my cousin and it didn't run near as cool.

CPU temp sensors for E0/C0 can be incorrectly calibrated in the BIOS if not using the latest BIOS version for your mobo. It happens a lot. That temp is just too good to be true for a CPU with a PCG rating of 06!
Not that it isn't legitimately possible. Just that the odds are against it.
