I occasionally receive faxes, but it is so seldom, that it doesn't warrant a fax machine. Instead, I use an email fax service. They provide you a fax number, and whatever faxes come in, are shown as attachments in an email.
Up until recently I never had a problem with it. I now have a new pc running Vista Home Premium. My last fax came up with 2 issues:
1. Which type of viewer or program do I associate the faxes to.
2. Unlike most faxes I've received, in TIF format, this came in XIF format. I can't see spending $40 on an XIF viewer that I'll use only a couple times. Can I change the XIF to TIF somehow, and if so, how.

There appears to be a viewer available Here (http://dwightblackburn.com/ap/pagis/download_viewer.htm) for this file type. I haven't tried it .
XnView is a freeware image viewer that has XIF listed as one of the supported formats...you should then be able to save it in another format or if you have the ability to print to PDF, convert it to the PDF format.
Dave, I haven't been able to find out whether or not the official Pagis viewer supports Vista...on the pagis downloads page, it doesn't come up if you select Vista as your OS...it may actually work, but may need to be run in 'compatibility mode'...right click on the exe and click 'run as...'

The Pagis Viewer seemed to have some issues with installing in XP, according to http://www.scantips.com/pagis_xp.html. Even the Pagis Editor doesn't say anything about support for Vista.
XnView did have xif files listed on the homepage, along with Vista being supported. I downloaded that file, but when I opened it, it didn't show the xif file as one of the supported formats. I opened the fax in XnView, to try it. It did open it, and it even printed, although the formatting was a bit off. It was a bit scrunched from the bottom and top of the page. For this instance, it was OK, since the info was for my own records. I'll try to fine tune it later. Thanks.
