I have a Dell Inspiron e1505 with Centrino Duo 1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, DVD-RW DL, ATI Radeon Mobile x1400, runs Windows Vista Ultimate.

This model had the battery recalled, which I sent back to Dell and replaced a while back. I was running Windows XP when my computer started having issues. The system ran very very slow and anytime there was movement on the screen, it lagged or the screen was choppy. I reloaded Windows XP and still had the same issue. I then tried to download the BIOS update from Dell and when I went to load it, I was prompted to have my battery and adapter plugged in. I had the adapter plugged in and the battery installed. I tried rebooting and a few other things, then tried unplugging my battery and plugging it back in and still same issue. So I removed the battery to look up the model number to contact Dell and my computer runs perfect with the battery removed. So my question is this, is the battery completely dead and I have to get a new one or is there something I can do to get rid of the issue I am having?

I was researching online and found someone with the exact issue I had. I forgot to mention the keyboard had delayed responses too. I'm going to email this person and see if the new battery helped.

Just a quick reply to my issue, I purchased another battery for my laptop and it works great. I was worried that there was an issue with the connection for the battery, but it looks like the battery just went bad. I figured I'd post an update for anyone who may have had the same issue.

A bad battery can indeed cause problems. I have seen it several times. Removing the battery is one of the normal troubleshooting steps for laptops. Particularly for no POST issues.

I have one friend that had an Acer with a bad battery that caused the system to act very strange, sometimes not posting and even ended up toasting the hard drive. In fact the old drive is still sitting on top of my desk after a year. :p

Once the drive was replaced it runs perfectly fine without the battery. Put the battery back in and it starts acting up straight away.
