 i did alot of research about connectivity and bandwidth through wireless and i was suggested by my friend to get a gaming router. i'm not sure if it will help or is it just a glorified router so can someone please comment and give opinion or answer. :D also is it possible to set up another router that isn't hard wired to the PC to just receive a wireless signal and hard wire a cpu component to that router? ( just my imagination working up a solution):D

Gaming router sounds like a gimmick, if your thinking it will give a performance boost- I don't buy it. It may have more port forwards per game already ready to go or something... but that only helps if your HOSTING the game.
If your doing wireless it probably means your using encryption. Strong encryption induces latency... slows things down... Packets flow very quickly, so your talking about adding fractions of a second but the latency goes up as the device becomes more busy.
Varaible...the other thing that 'gaming routers' seem to do...shape the traffic in favor of games. Which, to me means at the expense of all other network functions.
*Intelligently manages and automatically prioritizes network traffic to better execute bandwidth-sensitive applications
*Pre-configured ports to accommodate up to 256 policies for games and applications
Plus the Dlink one that I got that info from is a 'dual' transceiver model...so if there is a matching wireless card, it will do 108Mbps.
So basically, they don't do anything that can't be done with spending enough time to configure the settings yourself (in some cases, the settings that need to be configured may not be accessible...:()

 ok so although i do want to increase bandwidth to the other cpu component i dont want too sacrifice the other pc's in the house just for my gaming pleasure. much thanks for all comments too much appreciated.:D :D :D i think the main issue which is a guess is my wifi connection in the house is too week. i conducted a test with my laptop and wifi reader and about 7 feet from the router it is reading 68% connectivity :( and that is with no obstructions and a clear view to the router itself. and the ps3 downstairs is reading about the same so that plus any interference it may encounter may be the cause to my connection issues. i think that the range of the wireless router that i have right now is the problem plus the fact that's its the company supplied 2wire router and nothing good comes from that fact.:p i have a linksys router in the garage i'm most likely gonna put back on the network today but looking for opinions cause i was reading up on draft N routers was wondering will it help for the situation? all the editorials and comments i read about this technology are outdated. and cnet has absolutely nothing about it so is this a better alternative t building a better wireless network so i don't have to hard wire or am i better just getting a 100 foot Ethernet wire and running it downstairs???
Draft N is still over a year away from becoming 'N'...and the way things are going, the final, adopted standard will probably have little in common with the 'draft' that the current equipment is using.
What model of Linksy?
There may be some fun options with it...

What is your internet speed and yes you can setup another router that would be like a hub but it has to be hard wired from a modem or Ethernet cord with internet.

hey sorry it took me so long to get back but my model # for the router is wrt54G and my internet and my internet speed taken from speedtest.net is 5144k/bs per second download 644 kbs upload. sbc yahoo specs state that my internet is at downstream Speed: Up to 3.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 512 Kbps.
What version number on the Linksys?

nt sure give me a few i'm gonna set it up right now and see if it makes a difference with the connection and speed with my wireless
Version number should be on the sticker on the bottom...
Basically, what I'm getting around to is...that many versions of the WRT54G can be 'reprogrammed' with an open source, third party, Linux based firmware, that has many of the control options of the so called 'gaming routers' available to 'tweak'...so there would be no need to actually get one, when you can turn the one you've got into a much more configurable router than either the plain vanilla' stock unit or a 'gaming router'.
