I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse and vista ultimate.
Just wanted to know if this system would be able to play games like crysis call of duty 4 and other graphics intensive games at max? If so is there anything i dont necessarily need, like anything i can downgrade to cut the price? or is there anything lacking? thanks!

with that system sorry that cant be done, i take it you want it for gaming what is your budget?
a few things can be changed but easier to help once you have given us/me the budget

around 600-700. yeah i know not much of a budget. i dont necessarily need to have games maxed out just need a system that will pass for many great games until i can afford better hardware. basically just keep me satisfied for a bit.

Are you really into that case because it’s clear? The cooling on it is not very good..Especially for the price, I would recommend a better case for all the heat the higher end parts are going to put out.. I would also be weary about going with openbox parts, especially on a components which is an important as your psu. If that blows you could ruin your entire system.
I take it you don’t plan on doing any OCing either..
You need to install matched sticks of ram in that dual channel board.
You can do a lot better on that budget :) Here: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10714548 I even put the blue fans in to give you the blue glow of your other case, and make it look kinda like the Antec 900 big brother.

Nice building suggestions. Might I suggest this 8800GT instead?

After rebate it is cheaper. It is also made by a good company.

double post (now that the threads are merged)

You already have a thread: link invalid why did you make another one?
Did you drop your price down or something? Looks like you're looking at $500 builds now. I would not go with with AMD.
If you want comparably priced Intel motherboard/cpu...

Trade out PSUs for the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012
The Antec 300 case I linked you too was cheaper than the CM case once you take into account the CM has almost $20 worth of shipping costs. In fact I found it even cheaper here: http://www.buy.com/prod/antec-three-hundred-atx-computer-case/q/loc/101/207906549.html. So the Antec case is $18.99 cheaper than the CM case and then you can throw in the blue LEDs in the front for about $16 more and it's still cheaper.
I'm merging the two threads...this is really the same 'issue'...just because you've changed the direction of the build, doesn't mean you need a new thread...after all the whole point of the original is to come up with a system that meets your requirements and your budget...

ok sorry guys im pretty much a noob to forums, didnt look like i was getting too much attention on this one so thats why i made another. but dont worry i will NEVER do it again.heh. so anyway thanks for the response, callistra if i replace my mobo cpu psu and case with yours will the system run games like cod4 assassins creed, bioshock etc. pretty much new games but not maxed out but still enjoyable. sorry im sure im driving you all nuts.

ok sorry..so i noticed that the mobo has onboard video i can take it off right and install the video card i chose?
Yes, most all modern motherboards will automatically disable the onboard graphics when an actual video card is installed.

That system will run most games maxed out, depending on the resolution. I think the system is stronger than you may realize.
This may help: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/compare,735.html?prod[2074]=on

Crysis is basically one of the most demanding games on the market in terms of the hardware that it needs to run nicely. A 8800GT will get just under 33 fps with Crysis running at: 1280x1024, 0xAA, Trilinear, High Quality. Check this out for to see different fps for different games/cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/benchmarks,30.html
That is playable, but at that quality you aren't getting all the eye-candy with better resolutions and settings.
One thing I would seriously consider is a SLI capable MOBO. Something with a nForce 750 chipset or better. The cheapest upgrade that you will be able to do to that system is go SLI. but with the MOBO you picked you can't do that! In fact a 8800GT SLI setup plays Crysis- with AA on- pretty well even up to higher resolutions and quality levels.
Your MOBO is the heart of you PC, don't skimp!
callistra

First of all an nforce 750 mobo would set them back about $150 compared to the $60 they've budgeted. That board, despite being inexpensive, is actually quite nice. For $100 you can pick up a P5Q Pro which I'd take it over an nforce chipset any day. Second, two 8800gts in SLI will then run them $220 and for $15 more they could get a single 4870 and stick to the cheaper mobo and get comparable FPS. Totally not a suggestion that really pays attention to their actual needs. You are literally suggesting they MORE than DOUBLE their budget for the cpu and motherboard, and the cheapest upgrade is definitely not spending $400 on a gpu/mobo combination.
If you look at what they said, they don't expect to max out Crysis. An 8800GT is perfectly capable of giving them a good enjoyable experience.

Well first of all thanks for all the help everyone!!! But yeah like I said i am on a tight budget. My laptop is going under and i need something now. Unfortunately i don't have 1000-1500 to spend right now, however hopefully this build will allow me to upgrade in the future to say a 9 series gpu or better mobo. But as of right now i just need something that will get by with some descent gameplay. Thanks again everyone!

ok so thats it? i bought all the parts, is that all that i will need?
callistra

Yep, you should be good to go.
Let us know how your system turns out, an AMD cpu in an acrylic case is not something I would recommend, especially if you plan on using less then 120 mm case fans.

ok so everything should be here in a few days. however i have one question. im gonna be running vista and i noticed that on the cd drive specs it says it supports xp and 2000. i assume this will be a problem?
callistra

Based on review response, it should work with Vista.

om thank you. and also i must have went retarded when i ordered this but the cd drive also isnt a dvd burner now can i just buy a dvd burner and install that too or do i need a different mobo?
Motherboards have connections for anywhere from 4 to 8 drives...and in some cases even more. Usually, it is broken down into 2 IDE drives, 4 or more SATA drives. Those drives can be hard drives or optical drives...it doesn't matter. The optical drives can e just playback or they can be burners.

so i ordered an oem hard drive. and the best rated dvd burner i can find is also oem. so the wheels in my head started turning.....am i going to need to order cables for these things?

alright everyone, got the computer case today which was the last of everything i was waiting for. Got it all together in about 2 hrs. everything went smoothly. everything runs great and it appears that i will be able to do everything that i was hoping. only negatives are that the mail in rebates which were 2 for 25.00 on the ram and i think the psu, the rebate is only valid on orders made on or after october 1st and i purchased everything sept. 30th. heh. so that sucks 50 bucks i wont be getting back. other then that i am VERY pleased with everything so far and i have to say THANK YOU to everyone here. You all have helped so much and i appreciate it.
Before you give up on the rebates...double check the date on your receipt...it may be that the order was 'late' enough that it didn't actually process until the 1st. That should show on your receipt.
bkh1134
10-08-2008, 10:34 AM
well the rebate says it goes by the order date which on my receipt was the 30th however on the receipt the invoice date was the 1st. maybe ill just send in the rebate stuff anyway and if i get one well i get one if not oh well.
Most rebates need a copy of the receipt so that is the date that usually counts...it's worth the postage.
