Not sure if this is the right forum for this, mods feel free to move if not.
(running Windows Vista)
I have a VPN connection through work. It has worked ok for a while, but has seemed to cause some internet connectivity issues which were annoyances that I have learned to live with after numerous calls to our IT dept., my ISP, my wireless router manufacturer, etc.
Well, I was unable to connect to work via my VPN at all yesterday so I deleted the existing connection and reestablished the connection.
Now my problem is that when I am connected to the VPN, I am unable to access websites via my internet connection. Normally I was able to flip back and forth from the VPN to my connection with a click and was able to access websites from both places.
My work wasn't able to figure out what the problem was.
I contacted my ISP who said to contact my router manufacturer which I did. I talked to a rep through the live chat for about 45 minutes and he was unable to resolve the issue so I gave up on that and disconnected after I waited for a good 10 minutes and he didn't respond to my last question.
I did my own searching and one thing I found was go to the VPN connection's Properties>Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), click Properties, Advanced, on IP Settings tab, uncheck the box that says "Use default gateway on remote network", then OK, OK, and do the same for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
I'm not sure if it's necessary to select both TCP/IPv4 and 6, but I did just to be sure.
This fixed the problem and I can now access websites via my internet connection while connected to the VPN.
I can't believe it took this much effort and wasted time and not a single person knew hot to resolve this, and I did a 10 minute search on google and found the fix. (Not to mention I know a tech guy who does freelance pc work who came over and couldn't figure it out either.)
