Help, I'm innundated with Junk Mail - 55 so far today!

I'm running Hotmail in conjunction with Incedimail and although I've trialled Spam Detective with a small amount of success, I have not so far found any software that really works effectively with web-mail based e-mail accounts.

I'm so sick of it that I might even pay for some good Anti-Spam software!

Well Mitch,
It has been said here by some, to never respond to these mails as it simply lets them know that you are an active address.

I tend to belive that if you read thru these mails, you often find instructions to stop these mails. In my experience, most stop right away, some take two tries.

Be careful when opening them though as sometimes these things carry nasties with them. Be sure to have an A/V turned on to scan incoming mail.
Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

I try to give an alternate email address to any place that might send me spam. You can also use it for forum posting (although I've found folks in this forum to be very respectful of privacy). I keep the other screenname for personal correspondence. It helps a lot.

Hello Mitch Hatfield

Is that your real name your giving away?

You need an Email address that is not web-mail based.

Get an Email account with an ISP and use Outlook Express.
Outlook Express is much better anyway it's faster and more flexible.

You need to use different "identities" in Outlook Express.
One for friends and/or family, one for business, one for that special hobby etc. and one specially for those risky places that might attract spam. This [and possibly the others] you stop using and switch to another address when necessary. Each identity has it's own address which can be changed by changing the start of the address.

One idea is not to use a personal name in the address because as I've been finding out just lately, spam senders seem to trawl for names, so you could use numbers and/or letters for your part of the address.

Make certain that each identity is set to retrieve only it's own mail.
To do this go to:
"Outlook Express>Tools>Accounts>Mail>Properties>Servers>Inc oming Mail Server; Account Name"
and make certain that your complete Email address is specified [not just the User and Domain name] as the account name.

My address is of the form:
me@myfamily.isp.co.uk
or
an-identity@a-group.virtual-email-facility.com
