I was given an HP Pavilion a250n computer from a friend who said that lightening struck close to his home. He had it surge protected but failed to connect his coax cable to it. I'm guessing that the surge entered his mobo and fried the onboard ethernet jack. In device manager, nothing shows up for a network adapter. I tried to install a NIC card into one of is PCI slots, but it still doesn't recognize. I have tried to add hardware, but nothing seems to work. The PC is out of warranty, so HP won't be able to assist. I don't know what else to do, other than buying an inexpensive mobo/cpu combo and swapping them out. Any suggestions before I try that?
