hi my comp is connected to the modem/router atm, i have dsl/linksys, 2 other comps on the network in my house.

question is i'm replacing my comp and i was wondering if i needed any sort of sympatico or linksys install disc or any type or cd to get the internet working on my new comp. will the internet work as soon as i plug in my modem/router to my new comp? or will i have to scramble around the house looking for certain disc.

reason i'm asking is because i have no idea where any of the sympatico/linksys cds are in my house and i want to be able to start using my new computer right away and not have to deal with calling linksys/sympatico tech support.

The post says "wireless network question" but its not clear if the PC is connecting via wireless or ethernet cable.

If wireless, is it on-board, a USB dongle or PCI card and is the PC a Desktop or Laptop. Some more specifics would be useful.

Most PCs/Operating Systems have little problem connecting via a cable attached to a NIC. Most wireless networking will require the correct drivers to be installed for the specific wireless networking piece of hardware.

it's a desktop, my comp doesn't have the antenna thing but the other 2 comps in my house do.

So how does this PC (or more pertinently how will the new PC) communicate with any modem/router. Which piece of networking hardware is on the PC?

shrug, no hardware, modem/router connected directly to my comp.
