I have Windows XP Home. Down in the system tray is a volume control icon. As I'm listening to music, I use the volume control since I like to increase or decrease the volume of the music at times. But when I click on it to change the volume, it always beeps.:( I think it's kind of dumb while you're listening to nice soft music to have it beep whenever you want to change. I have all sound turned of on my computer, except of course, when I want to listen to something. Is there any way to turn of the dumb beeping in the volume control? Thanks--Frank

1. "when I click on it to change the volume, it always beeps"
Do you mean when you go down to the system tray with your cursor to "Open Volume Controls"?
If this is the default action [in bold] of the right-click context menu for the volume control icon, then you only need to "Choose" [normally double-click].
"Choosing" the volume control icon will cause an "Open Program" event to be registered as the volume control program "Opens".
If you have [set in the "Control Panel->Sounds and Multimedia->Sound Events"] a "Beep" sound [ a wave file of a specific name and address] allocated to a "Windows->Open Program" event, then that beep would sound whenever there is an "Open Program" event, of which this is only an example.
If you don't want that sound to be played for that particular "Open Program" event it would need to be deleted and would effect all such events.
2. The "Default Sound" is rather special.
It is sounded each time you try to do something on the PC that is not available under the circumstances.
It's rather handy to know you've just done something that's not possible, like clicking on a button or hitting a key on the keyboard.
I have "Leave me alone" allocated as the sound for that event.
It gave my neighbour a shock when I left him at my PC to go do something, and as I returned I heard that sound and he jumped with fright.
