I am working on redoing an older PC. The system specs are

Intel Celeron 1.4 processor
128mb of ram
windows xp service pack 1 for now will update tonight to sp 2

I am going through the add/remove programs list and i dont recognize a few programs and was just wondering what they do and is it alright to uninstall them or do i need them? This is the way they appear on the add/remove programs list

- Intel 845G Chipset Driver software
- Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice America English TTS Engine
- LiveReg (symantec corporation)
- LiveUpdate 1.7 (symantec corporation)
- Nvidia Windows 2000/XP DisplayDrivers
- PS2
- Python 1.5 (combined win32 extensions)
- Python 1.5.2 (final
- Tal 8.0.5 for windows
- WildTangent Channel Manager

Please just let me know whatthey do and if they are neessacary to the system.

I am trying to leave as little on the system as possible so it runs faster.

Also any tips on speeding it up other that upgrading the ram would all be greatly appreciated.

Thank alot

If you are trying to leave as little as possible,
I think you can remove everything besides the Intel chipset driver and the Nvidia display driver. (Technically you can also remove them, but then the system functionality would suffer unless you reinstall them).

For speeding the system up you can right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Settings under Performance, and choose "Adjust for best performance".

Do you have the disk to be able to reinstall XP?

PS2 is probably your mouse drivers
Nvidia is your video drivers
Chipset drivers are part of your motherboard drivers

http://www.python.org/ Not needed
Wild Tangent probably installed some additional junk somewhere

Symantec stuff is probably part of your Anti-virus protection...however, it could just be bloat also. Will you be using the computer on line?
