Hullo,
After having created a 'Data CD ' on a CD-R using the software given along with the CD writer, I checked under the properties (after clicking the right button on the drive icon on desktop) it showed around 700 MB as free space available.

Then through windows explorer, I copied some data files on to the CD and while ejecting the CD, I chose the "Leave As Is" option and removed the CD. Under these conditions, it mentioned that the CD could be read only on another cd writer. Later I deleted these data files on the CD.When I checked under the properties thro' the drive icon, it mentioned that 30MB space was used and around 670 MB was free space. But on checking for the contents of the CD , no files were available.

Could some one please explain this. Which files are using up the 30 M space ? Are the deleted files on the CD retreivable. ? Is the 30MB space lost ?
Thank you.

One more thing, I am not able to get at the confused smilie icon.

with a CDR you can use the 'space' only once, therefore if you don't use the full capacity of the disc (and don't 'close' it) you can write more data to it. (in the remaining free space) BUT if you delete the original data, then that space (which it occupied) becomes unusable.

also if you are using 'packet writing' the format will take up some space as well.
