Right - I read on a website that you can connect a games console to a wireless network by using a laptop and a network bridge. Somehow I have managed to completely break my wireless adapter. I'm quite out of my depth here, so I need somebody to save me!

Here is a play-by-play of exactly what I did...

1) Open up network Connections (standard SP3 Windows XP)
2) Disconnect from my wireless network
3) Connect the Xbox360's Ethernet port to the laptop's Ethernet port via a standard Ethernet cable
4) Highlight the LAN connection and the Wireless connection in Network Connections (my wireless is an 'Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG')
5) Choose to bridge the two connections
...6) Attempted to re-connect to the wireless network. Only problem is that it couldn't find any networks to connect to (I live in an urban area, so I usually get 4/5 possible wireless networks to choose from)
7) I try turning the wireless on and off a few times, nothing seems to help it even _detect_ any networks in the area
8) I figure this isn't worth it, so I remove the bridge between the two connections and delete the remaining 'Network Bridge' icon. I thought this would return everything to normality, but the wireless still cannot detect any networks. The little wireless network light doesn't even blink anymore :(

So I'm stuck. I've tried re-making the bridge, re-removing the bridge, restarting the computer, tinkering around with various options and nothing works. The LAN connection works fine when I plug the laptop into the wall.

Please can somebody help me? I know my way around a computer in general, but I am completely ignorant about networking. So go easy on me!

Just to clarify, I am not stealing my neighbour's broadband. I have my own wireless and ISP in my home - I just gave their networks as examples of how many networks my wireless card usually detects in my immediate area. It is currently detecting none, which it has never done before I start tinkering with it.
