I removed a SCSI card from my computer, then I removed the driver from the device manager. Now, everytime I boot my computer, I get the "New Hardware Found" dialogue box. There is no new hardware, so it doesn't need to search for a new driver. If I let it try to search for a driver, it locks up. I am running WinMe. How do I get Windows to realize that the hardware was removed?

Try re-inserting the SCSI card boot the computer and then Uninstall the drivers for it from Safe mode. Close down computer and then physically remove the card. Should be Ok after that.

And please let me know if that works! I "disabled" a video adaptor yesterday, rebooted to make sure it was staying disabled..it did, so I removed it in Device Manager, rebooted..all still fine. Went to Safe mode, it wasn't listed in Device Manager..I am happy. Rebooted out of Safe Mode to find myself looking at the same screen.."Windows has found new hardware and is installing drivers for it." Sigh...was tired and gave up for the day.

Don't know if it makes any difference but I would have removed the device and then booted directly into SafeMode and then removed any drivers from there. I would also have checked that there was no related installed software in the Add/Remove Programs and have also removed any that was there. Then rebooted normally.

Don't u just hate those messages...

I had the same thing about a year ago when I knew comparitively little about computers and I just let windows install the ghost hardware. That stopped the message coming up at least.

I wouldn't recommend it but its always there as a last resort.
