I turn on my DOS PC and it starts freezing after "Verifying DMI pool data" on startup. I tried the processor (700MHz PIII) in another PC and it shut down while booting 98SE. I turn it on and it said "Thermal error" or something like that. So I touched the processor and it wasn't even hot at all... o_O It's a SECC2 cartridge, so I took the heatsink off and I noticed the pins holding the heatsink to the processor case were broken... all in all, I decided it wouldn't be worth it to have such an outdated system around. So now I have a PII/III server motherboard sitting around... it's a beauty with AGP, 4xPCI, 3xISA, IDE, SCSI onboard, dual processor compatible... nice to keep around and show it to my grandkids one day.
I'm going to MicroPC today with my dad and I have some money ($150 or so) to spend... I'm interested in buying a P4 mobo with SATA... I'm hoping I can build something with a budget that small. I have a case and a PSU.

Bought a ECS 945GCT-M mobo that came with a 1.6GHz Celeron Dual Core processor and 1GB RAM for just $104 at Micro Center. (I meant Micro Center, not PC in the previous post). Rest of the stuff ordering off Newegg.

Well, when you get it together and boot it up, you should be set for quite some time as long as you aren't needing high performance for high-end games like Crysis and such.

Nah, I don't think I'll be gaming anything more intense than NHL06 or GTA Vice City... :P
Both which run at full speed on my 1.0GHz PIII 512mb RAM, 128mb nVidia FX5200 AGP, SoundBlaster AWE64 ISA, 98SE/XP
