I brought a supramax V.90 technology modem. I used the initializing sequence that supramax recommends to boost my modem. I'm happy with my results but wondering what the real speed it's giving out. FCC limits the speed of a modem but mine says it's dishing out @ a whopping 115.2 kilobytes per second. Well above the norm. Could someone explain to me what this V.90 technology is about? Just curious.

Nothing to do with the connection speed of the modem to the internet, everything to do with the connection speed between the computer and the modem....it is reporting the wrong speed because it is monitoring the port speed, not the connection.

Why does the FCC limit speed?

I’m not trying to do anything malicious…just curious.

Here (http://support.ktis.net/md1001.html) I found out that it's not enforced as a speed limit but rather a cap on signal power in order to reduce cross-talk. The signal power cap results in the speed limitation.
