Have been using Vista Home Premium on a new Compaq, since August. Ran into three very irritating problems.

(1) Dragged & Dropped the e-mail icon from the Start window to the desktop, to access e-mail more easily.

(2) The 'sleep' function doesn't work properly.

(3) When typing threads into this forum, Vista erases my entries, apparently from pressing some key on the keyboard, in a random fashion. This is the 2nd time I've tried to enter this thread. Once, I had to retype my thread four times before it could be posted.

For details - on (1) - I click on the e-mail icon on my desktop and then read my e-mail. Occasionally when I leave the e-mail, Vista removes the icon from the desktop and puts it in the recycle bin, where I am forced to restore it.

On (2), if I enter the 'sleep' mode with the START > SHUT DOWN > SLEEP method, the PC goes to sleep, then turns back on a few minutes later, by itself. If I enter the 'sleep' mode from the Compaq keyboard (there is a 'sleep' button there) I can't bring the PC back up at all, not with a mouse button, not with the enter key, not with any key. I am forced to drop power on the PC and bring it up from a cold start.

On (3), have no idea what is going on. With luck I'll be able to post this thread this time.

#2...not really Vista's fault...you need to find the attached hardware that isn't going to sleep. Most likely to least likely...mouse, keyboard, wireless network card, wired network card...and so on. Mouse and keyboard are even more likely to cause sleep problems if they are wireless.

The Compaq sleep button...is the actual keyboard driver, supplied by Compaq, installed?

#3 Which browser?

No programs running when 'sleep' is chosen. Kbd and trackball are wired. Compaq sleep button on Compaq kbd, factory installation. Using Internet Explorer.
