Another BootMagic problem? Somebody can help?
I assembled a new computer, around a Gigabyte motherboard, on it are Sata connectors and one IDE connector.
I first installed on a sata HD three times XP on primary partitions, in a multiboot system controlled by BootMagic v8.
Everything worked fine. Then I connected my existing IDE HD, containing only data, to the system.
On start-up the Boot menu shows up, and can be used. But trying to open the "bootmagic configuration module" shows: error 9002 - unable to find operating system for the menu item number 1. This menu item will be removed. Only possibility is clicking OK. Then follows the same ritual for the two remaining OS. ( and the possibility to switch BootMagic on becomes grayed)
To my surprise I found in Disk Management that the sata disk(bootdisk) was now labelled "disk1" (disk 2 in PM) and the ide (data) disk was now "disk0" (disk 1 in PM) !
After each start-up, the boot menu is there again and can be used, but with the configuration module out of business. I reinstalled PM and BM but no changes.
But I discovered something new: in the configuration module I could choose the three OS which reside on disk two, but doing so makes that on start-up the boot menu is no longer showing. Searching for clues in the configuration module shows regularly: there are no primary partition on disk1!
Can this disk numbering be changed?
I searched for help and somebody replied : WinXP installs as follows :
IDE0 Master
IDE0 Slave
IDE1 Master (if existing)
IDE1 Slave (if existing)
Then comes Sata 1 2 etc.
So, final question: can the numbering be changed or can bootmagic be altered in seeing the primary partitions on disk1?
