Yes, you are infected.

First find a friend who has a computer with internet connection...downloading the tools to clean a malware infection from a cybercafe is not the best way to go about.

Then on the friend's computer download the following, after making sure that the friend's machine is clean...

Hijack This (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download)
MBAM (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)
Combofix (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)

Go to this page...

http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=60009

Then save the page as a file, so you can reference it while offline.

Also, at this time it would be a good idea to grab one of the following...

AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com/)
Avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html)

Burn all of that to a CD or put it on a clean USB stick and then write protect it.

Then, on your computer, follow the instructions for posting a HijackThis log, except save the log to a USB stick, then copy and paste it here (this can be done at a cybercafe).

i did everything as u said ie downloaded all the stuff on a pendrive.
yesterday when i switched on the pc the os just refused to load.when i log in it gives me few options like last known good operation, safe mode, normal mode, safe mode with debbuging etc.
when i select safe mode it loads few drivers and then hangs
when i select lastknown good config. the screen becomes reddish.
when i select start normally it hangs.
i removed all the addon cards but still the same problem
so i decided to reinstall the os on the partion which had it originally.
when i run the installation cd it searches for all the required hardware, then it says coping the os files and then it restarts again
there are very imp doc on my hdd.
how can i get my pc up working and save my files
the os is windows media center edition
thanks in advance.

If you have documents you need to recover, then don't try anything like reinstalling the operating system.

You will need the drive manufacturer's diagnostics, a different OS that can be run from a CD and a portable storage device.

The first step, is download and burn an ISO of a Linux Live CD, like Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net/) or if you have a retail version/working version of Windows, create a UBCD4Win (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) CD. Test the disk and make sure you can boot to it and that the OS runs.

Next download and create the CD version of the hard drive manufactucturer's diagnostics.

Then boot to thediagnostics and run them...this is to make sure the hard drive is functioning correctly.

Then boot to the alternate OS and hook up the external drive. You should be able to use the file manager to then transfer your files to the portable storage.

Before you attempt to use those files, scan them with an up to date AV.

I would be more inclined to create the UBCD4Win disk to use...as it contains a number of free AV products that can be updated during the disk creation process and then used to try to disinfect your machine.

create a UBCD4Win CD. Test the disk and make sure you can boot to it and that the OS runs.

u mean that keep my first boot option as cd rom. then when i run this UBCD4WIN cd in my cd rom drive it shuld display options. will it have any option which will make my windows media center os run

booting the CD version of the hard drive manufactucturer's diagnostics.
will this diagnostics s/w run automatically after i boot my pc thru it

Then boot to the alternate OS
u mean UBCD4WIN , is it the alternative os. does this os also has a file manager

Yes, first item in the boot order would be to boot to an optical drive.

Yes, UBCD4Win is the alternate OS...it is a Windows PE based disk. That means in order to use it you will need a working install of Windows and all the setup files. This usually means an install disk as opposed to a restore disk.

hi,
before i could download the tools u recommended for getting my system up i decided to try an oly cd which i imported from states in 2001.it has all the tools like different hdd diagnostics., file recovery , memory tests.
it has the linux os. it is a self booting one. when i inserted it the linux used to load partially and then it started showing errors.for all the different tests linux was not able to load. i thought if hdd is not working then this linux must be loading to the memory.then why is it not getting loaded to the memory. so i ran the windows memory tests. the test ran all night. when i checked the outcome in the morning it revealed that slot 2 memory is a failure. i tried my luck .removed that memory and restarted the system.it started. sometimes.the error is something and the culprit is else where. thanks for ur help
then to remove the ssvichosst error i loadedthe antivirus u told me. i forgot to uninstall mcafee .now the problem is i dont have anyoption to remove mcafee.
i ran the free anti virus u told me. it spotted 10 viruses. it ran half way and it hanged.
i think both the antivirus might have conflicted.now im stuck cant remove both.
the other problem is im the only person at my place who uses my system.i dont know how my task manager is locked.
whenever i try to open task manager it says u dont have access when i even log into my pc as a administrator. please suggest how can i activate my taskmanager and how can i remove both the antivirus so that i can install the one u suggested

In the first part of my first reply there is a list of links...the first link is to Hijack This...you need to run it an paste the log it produces in this thread.
