Im pretty sure that my friends HD in his Laptop is done with. Im looking for a cheaper replacement for the Gas which is about 40 - 50$ on ebay. Its a 60gb HD but im sure he'd be fine with 40gb or even a 20gb. I know nothing about Laptops so im looking for a little guidance.

Sure to make sure ill post the problems and symptoms of his Laptop.

Its a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
Will not install Xp. Says "did not find any Hard disk drives in your computer" I know its its there cuz i just took it out and re-seated it.
I also took each stick of ram out and tested them one by one to no avail.

This seems like an HD problem to me, but im still an apprentice or even a newbie especially when it comes to Laptops.

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it will matter as far as SCSI or SATA...IDE/ATA/PATA are all basically different names for the same thing. SCSI and SATA are not IDE drives.
