Which of these two cards guys? I'm ignoring the price difference because it is so small and i think BFG more than makes up for it with their warranty.

ah ok. only problems with both those cards is Newegg is the only place that has them at those prices, and they are both not orderable right now. The BFG will be tomorrow, but no clue on the XFX. anywhere else i can find them at those prices and order them?

Of the two definitely get the BFG, it is a 9800GTX+. The XFX is a not a +. The + is a better core revision. ;)
And no the 30MHz memory is not much at all.

one thing i am worried about with the BFG is that it says it needs 2 6 pin connectors. my computer has the old 4 pin connectors and it says it only comes with 1 adapter for it. i don't want to have to buy an extra cord to use the card, when i can get the XFX black version which comes with 2 6 pin adapter cords. am i wrong and that 1 6 pin adapter is equal to using 2 true 6 pin cords?

Don't get either card...
Your power supply is probably not up to the task.
Post the specs on your power supply.

500 watts...........
what else do you need?

You will need 2x6pin connectors. If needed you can buy another adapter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189120).
If your power supply does not have even one 6pin PCIe x16 connector then I wonder if your power supply can even handle one of these cards??
You might want to post your system specs including power supply specs for us to see if you should even be thinking about getting such a card.
edit -
what else do you need?
On the side of the power supply there will be a listing of +12v A18 (for example). We need those specs.
Or power supply brand and model number.

Yeah...make/model will probably be a bit more useful.
34A 12V...borderline, especially if it is more than one 'rail' or a 'cheap' PSU.

Ultra X connect PSU. 500 Watts.
Upgrading a PSU wouldn't be a problem if i have to................just need suggestions on a good one or a good power level to look for

It should be fine. The specs do show it comes with 1x 6pin cable. So you should be fine with the one adapter. Unless you lost the 6pin cable?

no i have all cables for it. but that 6 pin cable isn't like the ones that connect to the video card. the 6 pin cable it came with is this flat one, not stacked 3 over 3

i might instead just bump down a video card and buy a new 600 watt power supply along wth it. i found a 20 dollar PSU on amazon, and i have 200 to spend total, so what video card could i get for around 180 that would give me pretty close to the performance of the 9800 GTX+? i know the Hz ratings will not be as high but somewhere in that range of power and speed.
Again i am upgrading to run GTA 4 and COD5 on the higher settings without a hicup when i get them.

 NO! There is no $20 PSU out there that is any good. They're not worth their weight in scrap metal. I wouldn't trust it to power an old P1 system I have sitting in the basement. Quality PSU's start out around $70.
Just get the extra adapter. This is of course assuming you have four free 4pin molex connectors to hook to them.
The specs on your existing PSU are good. Not great, but good. It should be adequate assuming you don't have five hard drives and four optical drives running.

hey now, budget PSU's work. my very first one was a 350 watt ATX PSU that cost all of 15 bucks brand new. I had it for 3 years and the only reason i upgraded it was because i upgraded my whole computer. And no its only running 1 hard drive, and 1 dvd drive.

Consider yourself lucky. ;)
Trust me, if you go from your current PSU to a $20 600w you would be downgrading. ;)
