Windows Media Player 11 skips songs

Hi everyone, when my friend drags songs to WMP 11, the player skips every other song: it plays track 1, then track 3, 5, etc... We uninstalled-reinstalled it, and it worked fine for a while (one or two days...?) but now it's doing it again. We have no idea what to do next. The OS is XP sp3. Anyone has a suggestion?

What happens if it is allowed to search and add songs to the library as opposed to dragging them?

Thank you for answering, MJC. What he usually does is select de songs he wants to play, and add them to wmp playlist. It used to play them in order, but now it skips some of them. When he drags the songs, the wmp has the same behaviour. When he plays the songs in the library, the player acts in random mode (random order is not selected).

A couple of things I found said to change the setting, from whatever it currently is...if it is saying it is off, then turn it on. Then, the important part, shutdown WMP. Then, start it back up and change the setting again, making sure that the setting you want "Off" is selected, and shut down, again.

If that doesn't help...

Try uninstalling/reinstalling WMP again, after clearing old playlists and such.
